Frequently asked questions.

Hair Loss

What is hair loss?

Hair loss, also known as alopecia, is a condition in which a person experiences a reduction or thinning of hair on the scalp or other parts of the body.

What causes hair loss?

Hair loss can be caused by several factors, including genetics (androgenetic alopecia), hormonal changes, disease, stress, nutritional deficiencies, and the use of certain medications. It can also be related to natural aging.

Is hair loss reversible?

It depends on the cause. Temporary hair loss caused by stress, nutritional deficiencies or hormonal changes may be reversible with proper treatment. However, in cases of androgenetic (hereditary) alopecia, hair loss is usually permanent, although there are treatments that can slow the process.

Can stress cause hair loss?

Yes, physical or emotional stress can trigger a type of hair loss called telogen effluvium. This causes more hair follicles than normal to enter the resting phase, resulting in increased hair loss.

What is biotin and how does it work?

Biotin, or vitamin B7, is a water-soluble vitamin essential for energy metabolism, as it helps convert carbohydrates, fats and proteins into usable energy. It is also known to promote healthy hair, skin and nails, as well as participate in fatty acid synthesis, glucose production and gene regulation. It is found in foods such as eggs, nuts, fish, dairy and vegetables. Although rare, its deficiency can cause hair loss, brittle nails, fatigue and skin rashes. It is essential for proper metabolic functioning and overall health.

When should I consult a doctor about hair loss?

If you notice sudden, irregular, or excessive hair loss, or if you experience other symptoms such as itching, redness, or inflammation of the scalp, it is advisable to consult a physician to determine the cause and receive appropriate treatment.
