What is ivermectin topical?

Topical ivermectin cream is commonly used for pimples and bumps caused by rosacea. The lotion is commonly used to treat head lice.

How should this medicine be used?

Ivermectin kills parasites such as lice by disrupting their nerves and muscles. For rosacea, ivermectin appears to work by killing parasites and reducing inflammation.

What special precautions should I follow?

Before using topical ivermectin,

  • Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all of your medical conditions and if you are using prescription or over-the-counter medications, such as vitamins, minerals, nutritional supplements and herbal products. This will help determine if topical ivermectin is right for you.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. It is not known if topical ivermectin can affect pregnancy or harm an unborn baby, or if it passes into breast milk.

What side effects can this medication cause?

Topical ivermectin may cause side effects. The following symptoms are likely to affect the skin you are treating with medication. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

  • Skin That Feels Like It Is Burning
  • Skin That Looks Irritated

Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of these symptoms stop using topical ivermectin and call your doctor immediately or get emergency medical treatment:

  • Breathing Problems or Wheezing
  • Racing Heart
  • Fever or General Ill Feeling
  • swollen lymph nodes Swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat
  • Trouble Swallowing or Throat Tightness
  • Itching, Skin Rash, or Pale Red Bumps on the Skin Called Hives
  • nausea or vomiting
  • Dizziness, Feeling Lightheaded, or Fainting
  • Stomach Cramps
